Abstract

Aim: The World Health Organization defines infertility as the inability to conceive within a year of regular, unprotected sex. The prevalence of infertility varies globally, but is estimated at 10-15%. Studies show that 85% of couples conceive within a year. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine recommends seeking infertility evaluation after 12 months for women under 35 and 6 months for those over 35. This study aims to investigate the relationship between cervical length and the success of intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Metods: This study included 270 primary infertile patients aged 20-40 undergoing IUI after clomiphene citrate induction. Cervical length was measured via ultrasonography. Patients with previous IUI failure, male factor infertility, or explainable female factors were excluded. Pregnancy assessment was based on β-hCG levels and transvaginal ultrasound.

Resutls: The mean age and BMI were similar between pregnant and non-pregnant groups. However, a significant difference was observed in BMI, with pregnant patients having a lower BMI. ROC analysis revealed a statistically significant correlation between cervical length and pregnancy, with an optimal cutoff value of 30 mm. Patients with a cervical length below 30 mm had a higher likelihood of pregnancy.

Conclussion: Cervical length is a significant factor in IUI success. Shorter cervical length is associated with higher pregnancy rates. Careful consideration of cervical length can optimize patient selection and improve IUI outcomes.
